WI-Connects Surveys aims to provide insights and measurements through self-identification on the industry’s successes, gaps, and opportunities, ensuring that our data is by and for the industry.

The 2023 State of the Industry report was compiled by INVOKE® (now WI-Connects Surveys). We launched INVOKE® Insights in 2021, gathering anonymous demographic and sentiment data from crew members in commercial production to create a roadmap for meaningful engagement and opportunity within the production industry.

This report is first of many we intend to release addressing our industry’s successes, gaps, and opportunities.

  • WI-Connects Surveys is an anonymous demographic surveying tool. We capture the makeup of a production privately & anonymously through self-identification and in collaboration with the crew. With anonymously aggregated information, we can drive the larger production industry and leaders with actions on how to support crew members on set and build pipelines.

  • WI-CONNECTS SURVEYS serves production cast and crew members, regardless of their background. The data, once aggregated, helps drive the larger production industry and leaders with actions to support these members better.

     

    WI-CONNECTS SURVEYS is currently designed to survey ALL members on set.

  • Many diversity tracking platforms in the entertainment industry are inherently performative and transactional, only looking to document limited and archaic graphs. We are not looking at selling data but rather at using it to impact change. WI-Connects Survey’s platform is designed to provide transparency and accountability. Reports create insights and opportunities to connect with WI-Talent tools for proactive hiring.

  • WI-Connects Surveys uses your submission to generate an aggregated report. Only metrics that ensure no individual’s identity is revealed are added to a report. For example: If a project has under 5 submissions, the possibility of singling out a crew member is high. In these cases, a report will not be created. Once we have the report, we work with productions to address the results of the data. After we understand the results, then we can implement programming to support positive on-set improvements.

  • WI-Connects Surveys is an opportunity to identify previously underreported information on the crew experience in productions. Results we are predicting include:

    • People being seen as unique individuals, not just check boxes

    • More inclusive environments on set.

    • Authentic storytelling.

    • Increased accountability and the opportunity to set new industry-wide goals

  • All information collected will be used solely to generate broad, anonymized reports. Reports never show any specifically identifying information and insufficient data is denoted when minimum response thresholds are not met. Info will never be shared or used for profit. 

    Surveys never ask for participants' names or email addresses and can only generate reports when a minimum response threshold is met, ensuring participants' anonymity. Reporting is also provided on a broad scale across several categories, never singling out roles.

  • WI-Connects Surveys is GDPR and CPRA compliant and employs appropriate administrative, physical and technical safeguards to protect user data.

    What is more, as a requirement of working with global brands, the WI-Connects Surveys Insights platform has been vetted by the legal counsel of each global brand we work with and are in compliance with’ data privacy and security requirements. Some of them require periodic audits which we participated and passed.

  • Yes! Our survey questions are a mix of required and not-required. However, with each question, you are given a response option of “prefer not to say.” That way, you can share only the information you’re comfortable sharing.
